I wanted to share some FUN childhood memories I have of Spencer and Adam.
For those of you that don't know Spencer Barrow passed away this last week.
My name is Holly Davies and I am the older sister of Adam Wells.
Adam and I are only 18 months apart in age.
Adam and Spencer Barrow were best friends growing up.
Spencer was always around my house and there are few funny memories
I have as a kid that don’t involve Spencer.
I have to be honest when I say that I have not had any contact with Spencer other
than Facebook in the last 17 years.
I just wanted to share the memories I have with Spencer growing up in Syracuse.
Spencer and Adam were always friends ~ and it was their mission in life to bug
ME….Adam’s older sister.
I really think that my life would have been really dull if I didn’t have them in my life.
I have many stories I wanted to share about the two trouble makers.
I want to say that I have kids of my own now and if they do the things Adam and Spencer did
…..I will freak out as a parent.
Peanut
The first story begins with me (I was in 5th grade) minding my own business in my house
and Spencer comes running in to tell me that they learned how to make dry ice bombs.
I go outside to find Adam in our backyard huddled over a dry ice bomb.
The two boys were so proud to show me.
Adam screams to us, “When I put it together….RUN!” Adam takes off running and so do we.
Except my dog Peanut wanted to know what the bomb was (I think he thought it was food)
and walks over and starts sniffing the bomb.
We all start screaming to Peanut…..but he still stands there sniffing.
Spencer jumps to the rescue and picks up Peanut.
It felt like Spencer was in an action movie and as he grabbed Peanut….
the bomb went off behind him and the bomb left a HUGE hole in the ground.
I know if Spencer had not been there….
Peanut would have been blown to bits!
Bow and Arrow
My second story begins with my brother and Spencer(5 graders) in the backyard
…shooting cereal boxes with a bow and arrow.
I was standing on the back deck watching them.
Adam would shoot the boxes and Spencer would run over and set the boxes back up.
Adam started to get bored and as Spencer was picking up the boxes he told
Spencer to stay there and hold the Capt Crunch box high above his head.
Adam wanted to try and shoot the box out of Spencer’s hand.
Adam pulled the arrow back and let go…….well I guess his aim was a little low
and the rusty arrow hits Spencer right in the arm.
Spencer started screaming holding his arm and I went running down to see if he was alright.
I thought he was crying and realized he was yelling,
“That was so Cool, Let’s do it again.”
Spencer pulled the rusty arrow out of his arm and they kept shooting
the bow and arrow.
Don’t mess with girls
My third story begins with Melani Glauser and I at my house in the
basement watching TV (5th graders).
My brother’s room was in the basement also, Spencer and Adam were in his room.
Spencer kept coming out of the room to bug us.
After his third time coming out of the room, Melani tells Spencer,
“This is your last warning Spencer, stop bugging us.”
I told Spencer “You are going to mess with Melani?, She has 8 sisters.”
Spencer tells us that he is not afraid of girls and we can’t stop him.
Well without going into much detail about what happened next…..
Spencer walked away with a broken arm!
He would never admit how his arm was broken to other people.
And he never bugged us again.
Spencer and his Fun, Crazy spirit will be missed.
I can honestly say that my childhood would not have been as fun without him.
And that is the Spencer I will always remember.
I hope that he is saving dogs,
shooting a bow and being nice to a girl in heaven.
